Why the obsession with trying to look younger than we really are? Yes, compliments are great for the ego, but why do we need to run from reality? Maybe we’ve simply been conditioned by Hollywood, the media and advertising. Whatever it is, “anti-wrinkle” is big business.

Cruise through your local drugstore or supermarket and you’re bombarded with all manner of anti-wrinkle creams, anti-wrinkle serums and anti-wrinkle formulas.

Go online and it’s the same story. Search using “anti-wrinkle” and you’ll be presented with listings running to hundreds of thousands for anti-wrinkle cream, anti-wrinkle eye cream, anti-wrinkle eye pads. And how about anti-wrinkle foods, anti-wrinkle pillow and anti-wrinkle bra! You’ll even be prompted to search for “anti-wrinkle creams that work”. What does that tell us? And women aren’t the only ones chasing the anti-wrinkle Holy Grail – Google gives us over 700,000 listings for anti-wrinkle creams for men.

Are wrinkles truly that loathsome?

Whatever happened to the view that wrinkles are a symbol of maturity and wisdom? They add character, too, don’t they? Indeed, but they’re also front-page news that your zenith of physical attractiveness is behind you. You got wrinkles, you’re on the way down, kid. Why else would countless A-listers turn to their surgeons to magic away their furrowed jowls and brows?

Your sebum production drops; your face isn’t far behind

Ironically, given the right conditions, your skin is actually pretty effective at keeping wrinkles at bay. Not eradicating them, but certainly making them less noticeable. Let’s not forget that skin is constantly renewing itself. The reason wrinkles, frown lines and crow’s feet appear is that your body loses its ability to produce sebum – the waxy substance released through the sebaceous glands that keeps skin supple and elastic.

A baby’s skin is a joy to touch: so plump, soft and silky smooth. It’s sebum that makes it that way. A baby’s body needs all the protection it can get, and a plentiful supply of sebum is nature’s way of providing that protection. By the time we enter our thirties, our ability to produce sebum is on the wane. Our skin starts to become dryer, thinner and less elastic. Crease lines appear. Say hello to wrinkles.

Why oil is a better “moisturizer” than water

The aim of all anti-wrinkle products is to compensate for our lack of sebum. Different formulas work in different ways. But overall, the goal of anti-wrinkle creams and anti-wrinkle serums is to give the skin back some of that youthful elasticity. Some do this by moisturizing – introducing water into the skin’s outermost layer. Others promote the absorption and retention of oily substances that are in effect a replacement for the depleted sebum.

It’s this second type we’re interested in. These are the “anti-wrinkle creams that work” – however, the most effective aren’t creams but carefully formulated oil blends. In fact, using creams and moisturizers may be counter-productive. They can interfere with your skin’s built-in preservation system. Repeated use of water-based moisturizers can dilute the delicate mix of lactic acid, amino acids, urea and salts that help keep the skin’s outer layer moisturized. This can be lost through evaporation, making skin even dryer than it if you didn’t use a moisturizer.

The natural way to glowing skin

The upshot? Unless you’ve lived a super-clean and ultra-cautious lifestyle – staying out of the sun; steering clear of cities, traffic, airports and other sources of airborne pollution; drinking water by the boatload; ever-watchful of potentially harmful chemicals in household cleaners, cosmetics and non-organic food – you’ve almost certainly got a few more wrinkles than you might otherwise have. But from here on, it’s your choice. Live with them, deny them (which typically means trying to cover them up somehow) or tap into your body’s natural ability to provide you with glowing skin, whatever your age.

If fighting a losing battle doesn’t appeal to you, you might like to check out a product called Vitamin E Balancing Oil from Super Natural Organic Skincare. I’ve met Super Natural’s founder, Lesley Alkin. And I can tell you, the only time people think she’s lying about her age is when she’s telling the truth.

Never mind the latest new-fangled face cream or serum. Nothing beats a skin care routine specifically designed to enhance your body’s natural ability to look after itself.

Here are my top six tips for a beautiful, glowing complexion.

1. Cleanse with cleansing milk

Cleansing milk contains more oil than water. It draws out grease and impurities without stripping the skin of its protective barrier.

Choose a PH-balanced cleansing milk with AHAs, such as lactic acid. This dissolves the ‘glue’ around dead skin cells and promotes regeneration.

Gently exfoliate once or twice a week using a warm, damp face cloth.

2. Don’t use a toner after cleansing

The outermost layer of your skin contains natural moisturizing factors (NMFs). Their job is to keep the skin moist and supple by attracting water. However, too much water can upset the delicate balance of NMFs and cause them to evaporate.

Regular use of toners, spritzers, water-based gels or any other ‘light moisturizers’ that contain more water than oil can deplete NMFs. Do your skin a favor and ditch these potential ‘de-moisturizers’.

3. Keep it simple

Some skincare products’ ingredient lists read like a high-school chemistry test. By law, of course, every single ingredient must have been thoroughly tested and passed as safe. But what about the combined effects of all these chemicals? Can it really be good for your long-term health to keep putting them in your body?

A good policy is to avoid chemicals wherever possible. Common skincare ingredients to steer clear of are: parabens (widely used as a preservative), mineral oil (which has no nutritional value), synthetic perfumes and synthetic colors.

4. Get a regular dose of antioxidants

Antioxidants help cancel out and reverse the damaging effects of free radicals.

This damage takes place at a molecular level and is thought to contribute to the appearance of wrinkles. You can’t stop it any more than you can give up your need for oxygen; all you can do is make sure your body is well stocked with antioxidants.

Skin care products often contain ingredients with antioxidant properties, such as vitamin A, vitamin E and rosemary extract. But plenty of foods do the job admirably. Among the best are beans (red, kidney, pinto), berries (blueberry, blackberry, cranberry, raspberry, strawberry), artichoke hearts, prunes, apples and pecans.

5. Protect against sun damage

Sunlight is a great source of vitamin D, essential for good bone health and a properly functioning immune system. But don’t overdo it – and choose your sun block carefully.

Prefer a sun block based on mineral reflectors such as titanium dioxide to one that uses chemical agents. Who knows if prolonged daily use of some of these chemical-based products might actually do more harm than good?

The face, neck and upper chest need extra protection. If out in direct sunlight, wear a wide-brimmed hat and use a parasol.

6. Maintain your skin’s natural protective barrier

The outermost layer of the skin is made up of flattened (keratinized) cells. These cells are quite different from the deeper skin layers. Their role is to protect and preserve; they are your first line of defense.

Skin that looks dull, dry and lifeless is out of balance. It no longer has the right mix of oils and water to do the job it was designed to do.

As we age, our body produces less sebum. This can lead to dry, flaky skin and the so-called visible signs of aging.

To restore the balance, you need to boost your intake of essential fatty acids. The right diet can help, but this is where a carefully formulated skin care product can really make a difference.

Look for a blend of natural, organic, cold-pressed, plant-based oils.

Conclusion

Your skin is amazing. In a perfect world, it would look after itself and we’d all have a naturally beautiful, glowing complexion. But in the world we live in, isn’t it worth taking these half dozen steps to help keep your skin looking and feeling wonderful?

The Nobel Laureates showed that the solution can be found at the ends of chromosomes in telomeres — long, thread-like DNA molecules that carry our genes — and in an enzyme that forms them — telomerase.

If the telomeres are shortened, cells age. Conversely, if telomerase activity is high, telomere length is maintained, and premature cellular aging is delayed.
It seems that everywhere you turn, there is another lube shop or brake shop, and they all manage to stay busy. Yet which one is the right one? Is it smarter to take your vehicle to a specialty shop when it needs work done on those parts, or a general repair shop? Surely the specialty shops are better trained on those particular systems, right? The answer is almost always no.

Customers expect a good mechanic to have answers to their questions, and to know more about repairing their car than the average Joe. Why, then, would you want to take your vehicle to a shop that only provides certain services? Unlike a doctor, auto mechanics do not necessarily have to have a general knowledge of how vehicles work to change oil or brake pads. There is nothing requiring them to take a class that teaches them how to recognize problems that may keep the car from being reliable in the future, or issues that can be fixed cheaply now to avoid an expensive repair later on down the road. In fact, even if they do notice a problem, they are not in any way obligated to tell the customer about it. They don’t care, it’s not their business. Besides, if they were qualified to make that determination, they wouldn’t be working at a place that only did brakes or oil.

How often does someone get underneath your vehicle, besides to change the oil or do other maintenance? Have you ever looked at the maintenance schedule in your owners manual and taken note of how often the manufacturer calls for various things to be inspected? A well trained general mechanic knows all of these things by heart. Without even thinking about it, he is checking various subsystems of you vehicle every time he does a simple oil change. He does this because his last job may have been repairing or replacing that exact same part on a different, or even similar vehicle.

Transmission Austin is all about experience and customer service. The best mechanic is the one who knows how to fix your car, identify problems before they happen if at all possible, and advise the customer on the best course of action with the customer’s interests in mind. After all, we want you coming back for everything your car, or any other car in your family may need, be it maintenance, repair, or just a quick once-over before that trip across the country. A trusted, general mechanic is also invaluable when it comes time to buy a used vehicle. The lube shop can’t tell you if a car’s transmission is in good shape.

I get a lot of people with rosacea writing to me – particularly at this time of year when the weather gets cooler and central heating is switched on. Allergy-prone skin can be particularly sensitive to temperature variations.

Rosacea is a common skin allergy that appears on the face - usually along the upper cheeks and nose.

Symptoms include facial redness, dilated capillaries and, in some cases, small hard spots. It is most common in women over the age of 30 and several friends of mine developed the condition during their first pregnancy.

If you suffer from rosacea it is important to avoid the following triggers:

- Caffeine
- Spicy foods
- Alcohol in skincare products
- Sunlight

Moisturise with a chemical-free moisturiser such as our Chamomile & Rosehip Cream. Rosehip is a fantastic skin healer and strengthener while Chamomile (see image) contains azulene, a natural anti-inflammatory, which will cool and calm the flushing.

Diet is also important when dealing with all skin allergies and rosacea is no exception. Try and increase your intake of Essential Fatty Acids (Omega 3, 6 & 9) as these can help calm and condition the skin from the inside. Oily fish, seeds and nuts are all good sources as are supplements like a high grade flaxseed oil.

Pcynogenol, or pine bark extract, is also believed to be a good natural remedy for rosacea as it has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.

Studies show that fewer than 32 percent of Americans eat the required servings of vegetables each day. Also, the American diet is comprised of too much of processed sugar and not enough fruits and water. A deficiency in essential vitamins and supplements can only spell trouble for the skin. If your body does not get the required nutrition for skin renewal, tissue repair and for its organs to naturally detoxify, then your chances of getting acned skin, along with other health problems, are likely to increase.

Vitamin A strengthens the protective tissue of your skin and helps in acne remedy. It reduces the production of sebum and works in repairing the tissue that skin and mucous membranes are made of. It’s also a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants are important and needed to help rid your body of toxins that have built up. A lack in Vitamin A can cause acne!

The Complex B vitamins are also helpful in preserving healthy skin through the relief of stress. Stress has been identified as a major trigger for acne for some people. The B vitamins should always be taken together. Thiamine is an antioxidant, helps circulation, and aids in digestion. Riboflavin works with Vitamin A and is essential for healthy skin, hair, and nails. Niacinamide helps with the metabolism of carbohydrates in your system and improving circulation. Niacinamide shortage in your diet can cause acne. Pantothenic Acid or B5 is popular for helping to reduce stress and is needed for the adrenal glands to function properly. Vitamin B6, or Pyridoxine is important for the correct function of your immune system and antibody production.

Vitamin C with biofavonoids is also referred to as the “super vitamin” and can play an important role in your acne remedy. Vitamin C is instrumental in at least 300 metabolic functions in your body, is needed for tissue growth and repair, and flushes toxins from your system. Vitamin C also improves immunity and protects against infection. If you have diabetes, check with your doctor for the dosage that is best for your body.

Chromium, widely used for weight loss also helps fight acne. Chromium should be taken in an added form since chromium in foods is not easily absorbed. Much of it is lost in processing and high doses of sugar cause the loss of chromium.

Zinc aids in acne remedy by regulating the activity of the oil glands. It promotes the healing in tissues and helps to prevent scarring. Zinc promotes a healthier immune system that in turn aids in the healing of wounds. In addition, a powerful antioxidant that helps prevent the forming of free radicals, or toxins that can harm your body.

Finally, Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. It improves healing and tissue repair and prevents cell damage by inhibiting oxidation of fats and the formation of free radicals.

One interesting fact about acne can be noted that is a multivitamin with added chromium supplement will give you most of what your body needs for the day. It should be also noted that taking too much of a vitamin or mineral can also be toxic and dangerous. Read the recommended dosage and stick with it.

With enough vitamins for your body, you are assured of a well nourished body. Your body organs, cells and tissues can perform optimally on the inside and you get to see the benefits on a physical level.

Cosmetics manufacturers are increasingly responding to customer demand for paraben-free products and removing it from their formulations.

While this is a good thing, many are replacing Parabens with another chemical preservative called Phenoxyethanol.

If you scan ingredient lists of natural and organic beauty products it is surprising how many companies are using it.

However, this synthetic preservative comes with it's own set of problems.

- It has been linked to skin irritation and is believed to have damaging effects on the nervous system.

- Like Parabens, it has oestregenic properties so should be avoided by endometriosis sufferers or those afflicted with adult acne.

- It has a hazard score of 4 on Skin Deep, a brilliant and comprehensive database of cosmetic ingredients.

- Its use in cosmetic preparations is restricted in Japan and will be disallowed under the new European organic beauty standard, COSMOS.

We don't know for certain how safe or harmful phenoxyethanol is so, at Pai, we take the precautionary approach and leave it out.

The sun is not only deadly to skin, but sun-induced tans can be splotchy and dry looking. Jan Marini Skin Research (JMSR) sunless tanning technology gives your skin a flawless golden glow that can adjust to your desired depth of color.

To extend a sunless tan, mix 1 part Bioglycolic Sunless Self-Tanner to 1 part Biolglycolic Hand and Body Lotion and apply like a body moisturizer. This will give your sunless tan a streak-free gradual boost that will keep the color rich, smooth and glowing.

To gradually tan the face, mix 1 part Bioglycolic Sunless Self-Tanner to 1 part Transformation Face Cream or Serum or 1 part Age Intervention Face Cream or Serum.

One of the biggest summer misconceptions is that sunbathing helps to clear up breakouts. While sun exposure may initially appear to dry up the blemish on the surface, the sun only stimulates more oil production and exacerbates the acne process. Plus, sun exposure contributes to hyperpigmentation after the blemish clears up.

For a polished look without the makeup, Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 30 Tinted sunscreen is a terrific option. Shades available include: Sunkissed Bronze, Sunkissed Sand and Sunkissed Neutral. In addition to providing great protection, Jan Marini’s tinted sunscreen helps even skin tone and features a selective oil control component.

Visit Jane Marini Skin Research now: Click here

They make life wretched because ambulating is very agonizing as weight is applied to these tough knots of membrane. The pressure causes pain and tenderness to the nerves in the region of the wart.

Some of the plantar warts are actually implanted into the skin and appear as small holes with hard, knotty calluses in the hole. Others, found more to the surface of the foot may be in fact extending out of the surrounding skin causing irritation as the wart rubs on the inside of a shoe.

Numerous people find it necessary to have surgery just to even walk because the pain is so incapacitating. The surgeon will frequently cut into the surrounding skin in an attempt to cut the wart out. Now and then this impedes the nerves in the vicinity and though the wart is expunged, pain remains for some stretch. The principal problem is that these plantar warts regularly reappear and bring about even more damage.

Foot bottom warts often cause feeble gait as the person affected by them has to tread on the periphery of their foot or even on the heel. In time this can bring about more crippling problems if the plantar wart is not removed in some way.

Plantar wart removal can frequently be complicated, simply because of the locality of the majority? First, surgery because most over-the-counter solutions will not get to the source of the problem which is a virus established underneath the skin. Second, for the most part solutions for plantar warts merely provide passing respite until the wart grows back and frequently is even of poorer quality. Pre-emptive measures such as avoiding barefoot walking in communal places or in public showers will more often than not keep plantar warts from occurring.

When the warts commence occurring, it is best to minister to them immediately as they develop rather quickly and the longer therapy is delayed or put off, the more this type of wart will grow into the skin and trigger pain and distress. So, what is an effective treatment that may be utilized?

There is a new therapy that has recently been discovered that may give hope to plantar wart sufferers. The treatment is comprised of an all natural therapy that does not include trying to dissolve the wart away but rather uses natural mixtures to kill the virus at the position of contact. For so long even doctors did not offer any relief with the exception of surgery and habitually they have been diffident to utilize “natural” measures. This new system is finding some significant sensation and the author even provides a guarantee if the method is unsuccessful.

More information can be found about this new, effective natural method by just clicking on the above link within the text.
