Tips for Spray Sunscreens

Spray sunscreens are excellent when it comes to ease of application, especially when it comes to protecting your kid’s skin!  But you have a bigger chance of applying it wrong than with a cream or lotion.  Because all it takes is a small gust of wind or a squirmy child to miss large areas of the body.

So if you like the ease of spray sunscreens like Coppertone Continuous Spray SPF 70 (compare prices), follow these tips for applications.

  1. Consider spraying it into your hand and rub onto the skin.  It will still absorb quickly, and while not as fast as spraying it on, it’s a safer bet.
  2. If you want to spray directly onto the skin, still rub the sunscreen in with your hand after you’ve sprayed it on. You’ll be making sure you have even application, and you probably will be able to feel if you missed an area.
  3. When spraying it onto your child’s skin, don’t hold the can too far away.  I see this at the pool all of the time.  The parent is a good 2 feet away from the child, and while they probably can’t see where the sunscreen is going, more often than not, it’s not hitting the target.
  4. Don’t think that holding the can behind you and spraying your back is protection enough.  You have no idea if the sunscreen actually covered your entire back.  Ask a friend to apply it so they can be sure your skin is covered.

Spray sunscreens really are great when it comes to the quick absorption of product, but more often then not, people still wind up with sunburns from not making sure all of the skin gets properly covered.  So, play it safe, and then get out there and enjoy the sunshine!
